Building Good Social Skills Beyond Classrooms

From 4 to 6 February 2026, our Kindergarten 2 children from Kinderland Preschool @ Bonavista enjoyed a memorable trip to Sukasantai Farmstay in Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia. Centred on the theme “Connecting with the World,” the trip gave children the opportunity to explore nature, learn new skills and participate in hands-on activities while bonding with their friends.

During the trip, the children participated in a variety of indoor games, which encouraged teamwork, cooperation, and patience. They also enjoyed exciting outdoor activities such as fishing, feeding cows, harvesting crops including yams, carrots, mulberries and passion fruits, and collecting eggs. These activities helped them develop a greater appreciation for farm life and understand where food comes from.

The children also had fun barbecuing marshmallows, enjoying grilled corn and lighting up sparklers, which made the experience even more memorable. They sang and signed the song, “We Are the World,” reinforcing the message that everyone is unique and that friendship transcends borders. Along the way, they learnt simple Sundanese words such as “Wilujeng Sumping” (Welcome) and “Hatur Nuhun” (Thank you), fostering an appreciation for the local culture and community.

Throughout the trip, the children were encouraged to respect one another, and to listen and support each other. Through these shared experiences, they understood the importance of empathy, cooperation, and teamwork.

By the end of the trip, the children had formed stronger friendships with their friends and a deeper appreciation for the world around them. More importantly, they discovered that building meaningful relationships extends beyond the classroom and plays an important role in creating a more caring and harmonious world.
